I have always been most interested in human consciousness, our behavior, as well as all our specificities. There are few things that are so inspiring and meaningful to me. And I wanted to practice psychotherapy practically since I found out that it exists, and I don't believe that I could do it any other way. I am still interested in everyone's life story after more than ten years in the role of psychotherapist.
The most important thing that we therapists can provide to those across from us is support. It is the basis for everything we can achieve together. After we stand on the same side, opposite to the problem, we begin to strive to understand everything that is important to the person, as well as the potential reasons why he is in the problem, and the reasons always exist. Then, it is necessary to simultaneously create new alternatives in a person's life and reject old, insufficiently constructive patterns and tendencies. In addition, I realized quite early in my work that the change in the way we feel is the most important part of the whole process. The language and logic of the emotional part of us are different. There we enter a much more blurred and unfamiliar terrain, where there are no clear and unambiguous answers, a terrain where we try to relieve the person of painful feelings. I think that therapy should be a safe place for experiences that lie beyond words. I try to feel the person, to respond to the whole experience he is having and most importantly, to be there for him.
In my work, I like to use various relaxation techniques and meditation. Sometimes the main goal of therapy is to slow down and calm a person who is overwhelmed by experiences. The beauty of constructivism lies in the fact that it invites us to be open to various techniques and ideas if they can facilitate the whole process. It can be writing, painting or anything that can help us on our way. That's why while I'm working I feel like I'm part of a very creative process and I know that anything is possible.
What hints that the end of psychotherapy is approaching is when we both notice that the sessions are more relieved of problems, that the person is in a good place and is able to deal with future challenges on their own. That moment is priceless for me.
